What's the check-out period? Each book is checked out for a two week period. Books may be renewed up to 3 times. Media can be checked out for a one week time period and cannot be renewed.
Does the library collect fines for overdue books? No, but lost or damaged books must be paid for before report cards are issued.
Are students able to bring their own technology to the library? Yes, often during research projects, students will be allowed to access their own technology (smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc. - any device with Internet access) when databases and/or online sources are part of the assignment. Students should always check with Mrs. Parks or Mrs. Dennis before using their device and follow MNPS policies. The library is not responsible for lost or damaged devices.
Is the library open before or after school? Yes, we open at 7:30 to allow students, needing to work on projects, access to the library's resources. This time will only be for offered to students needing access to computers and the printer. Students must get a pass from the office and have it with them when they come to the library. Students will stay in the library until the bell rings.
We are open until 3:10 in the afternoon, but will shoo students out the door if they are car or bus riders!
How are books checked out from Limitless Libraries? This FANTASTIC collaboration between the Nashville Public Library and Metro Nashville Public School libraries has garnered national attention (look for links about this project on the Media tab) and is truly what libraries are all about! Students and teachers can order items from NPL and receive and return them at the Meigs Library. Due to funding amounts, school libraries are pressed to supply all of our students' and teachers' needs. I tend to think of Limitless Libraries as our annex. As a MNPS student said so well, "The future is in your hands, make it limitless"!
Go to the Limitless Libraries icon on the Meigs Library Catalog page. Log in with the 190______ student number. The pin number is the student's 4 digit birth month and birth date. For example, March 30 is 0330. Once logged in, search for books, media, music. Click REQUEST, located under the title (up to twenty five items can be ordered) and SUBMIT (Meigs is the delivery location). The books/media will be sent to our school library. If there are no holds on the requested items, they usually arrive in our library within three to four days. Check with Mrs. Dennis or Mrs. Parks after 10:00 AM to pick up each day's shipment. Caution, overdue library books ordered from Limitless Libraries accrue late fines. Our library cannot accept payments for lost books or late/overdue fees to Limitless Libraries at Nashville Public Library.
What are the log-ins for our databases? Because these are subscriptions, the log-ins are not posted online. Students should have written log-ins from classes/lessons in the library or can pick up an information sheet at the circulation desk.
